Originally the Woodhouse Community Garden Project was a partnership between the Woodhouse and District Community Forum (WDCF), the Salvation Army, and Sheffield City Council. Today the project is supported by the WDCF and managed by volunteers.

Extensive work has been put into the site over a number of years all of which has been completed by local residents, young people and support of businesses providing community service.

We are constantly looking for new volunteers; you can contribute to your community with your practical skills, make new friends and experience the camaraderie of working with other like-minded people putting practical skills to good use and also sharing them with others. Our aim is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the local community to come and enjoy the Gardens surroundings. So if you are just looking for a peaceful environment to relax away from the demands of life you are more than welcome. This Project is for anyone who feels they can benefit from spending time on this unique venture. During the growing seasons we sell our produce in the Woodhouse library and the proceeds going back in to the Project. With a water collection system, Poly tunnel and building we are able to maintain work in the garden during the winter months, preparing the grounds for next year's growing season.

The Garden has been specifically planned to enable a range of activities whether education based activities, learning new skills or conservation, where we have linked with Shirebrook Valley Nature Reserve. One of our aims is to share and show parents and children how fruit and vegetables are grown which we hope will demonstrate the importance of healthy eating. We also grow and cultivate flowering plants and support projects in the community which aim to improve the local environment.

Community Feedback

"The Woodhouse community allotment is a peaceful and welcoming space, which is valued as a placement by both Remedi staff and Remedi children."

"My kids and I love spending time on the garden. It's a welcoming and relaxing environment for all ages and we learn something new every time!"

A garden volunteer has said
"Its great, I felt very welcome from the first time I visited. I've been learning about growing food, but I've learnt more about myself and feel like I'm part of a community, I never thought I would feel like that."
